Australia - Alice Springs
Alice Springs, “The Alice," is a remote town in the heart of Australia's Red Centre, located in the Northern Territory. It is a gateway to iconic attractions like Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), and Kings Canyon.
Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a massive sandstone monolith within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It's one of Australia's most iconic landmarks. It is sacred to the Anangu people, with many Dreamtime stories connected to its formation and features. It stands 348 meters (1,142 feet) high, with most of its bulk below ground, and has a circumference of 9.4 kilometers (5.8 miles). Its color changes dramatically, glowing red during sunrise and sunset.
We did the Base Walk of a 10.6 km (6.6 mile) loop which took us some 5 hours. It circles the entire base of Uluru and showcases its ever-changing features. Along the way, we saw water holes, caves, ancient rock art, and sacred sites.
